Hey there,
I've got an unlocked iPhone (1.0.2), if I connect it to iTunes, will it automatically update the firmware?
Obviously, I wanna check this out before I connect it to iTunes, as I don't wanna lose my unlocked iPhone!
Please help me guys,
Thanks!

iPhone Firmware update 3.0.1 - Windows XP SP3 - 1604 error
location:
ilounge.com - date:
August 4, 2009
Just thought i'd post a how to on updating iPhone on a windows XP machine.
Yesterday i downloaded and proceeded with the update only to have the iPhone hang in the 'Preparing iPhone for restore' stage. It ended with a 1604 error message.
After exhausting the apple troubleshooting page and a useless phone call to Apple help, they said i would need to send it to them for service! I found a solution that worked for me.
I noticed the iPhone was not reconnecting to iTunes after going into DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode during the install. There was no iPhone listed in iTunes above playlists.
My solution was when the iPhone hung in DFU mode (totally black screen) to leave it connected and go to task manager and end the iTunes process (eek!) then restart iTunes. This allowed discovery of the iPhone and the firmware update to go through.
I hope this helps with some that are experiencing the same problem.

iPhone firmware update 3.1.2 is out! How's it working for you?
location:
apple.com - date:

Whew relief at last! but 'your mileage may vary'. I am very curious how well it's working. I really hope 'comatose' is a word we can quickly forget. I was at 3.1 last night and had hopefully my last coma ever. I put on 3.1.2 and it went very smoothly other than for some reason some of my apps lost their data. (i lost hundreds of entries from my 'Lose-it' weight management program (AWESOME by the way; down almost 20# since July). Since putting on 3.1.2, however, phone not quite as responsive as yesterday on 3.1 (something i can deal with if it never 'goes coma' again), but once in a while it's a pretty long pause, like a 4 sec. pause in the middle of a tapping a word; again if it's a trade-off to have the phone work 100% of the time i can cope with that. Anybody that does try the upgrade and has a problem, please go through the normal steps of putting on a clean install before 'going ballistic'. Basically, i would recommend doing a backup, putting the phone

Trying to update iPhone firmware and it's making me download update all over again!
location:
apple.com - date:
July 2, 2012
Hi all, Alright so I am trying to update the firmware on my iPhone 4 which currently has iOS 5.0.1. I plugged it in, opened iTunes, and clicked update. I went through the agree/disagree and the "backup/don't backup" popups Then, iTunes started to download the firmware update. After two hours of download time, it finally finishes. I unplugged my iPhone to make a call, then plugged it backin to go ahead and install the update. I go to my iphone on the left hand column of iTunes, click update, go through all the same popup windows and then iTunes stars to download the entire update all over again!!! I even checked the library directory where iTunes downloads the firmware/restore files (.ipsw files) to, and notice that the original update file is still there (iPhone3,1_5.1.1_9B206_Restore.ipsw), and it is downloading the exact same file all over again. Why is it doing this? I don't want to have to wait another

Update to iOS 5.1 causes iPhone to crash on "Restoring iPhone Firmware"
location:

Hello everyone. I have been vry please with my iPhone 4 on Verizon for the last 6 months. I was on iOS 5 which worked great. Then this morning the AppStore icon had the familiar red circle indicating some apps had updates available. I clicked Update All. In there was an update for iOS5.1. I clicked OK. I gave me the usual License agreement etc… I clicked OK. A few minutes later I looked at it and it showed a picture of a cable with an arrow towards an iTunes icon. SO I plugged it to my computer and it launched iTunes. iTunes tells me that my

>> iPhone 4 >> Firmware Update to Fix Yellow Screen Issues??
location:
macrumors.com - date:

Back when iPhone 3G was released early adopters found that the screen had a yellow consistent tinge - the displayer was a warmer and yellowy unlike the predecessors that had a cool white screen.
It seems it was the same story with the 3GS and NOW the iPhone 4.
But wait,

Can't update iPhone firmware - Windows
location:
imore.com - date:
February 8, 2011
I've had an issue on my laptop ever since the 4.0 firmware was released - everything worked perfectly before 4.0. iTunes recognizes my iPhone 4, will sync normally, but will not apply any firmware updates. When a new firmware is released, it will prompt me to update, however when the download is complete it fails during the install process. I forget the exact error code and I've been too lazy to look for an answer since it happened the first time around When I first had the error, it seemed to be only Windows based and the only "fix" I could find was to use a different cable and/or USB port. I've tried both and also un-installing/re-installing iTunes with no success.
I have to use my wife's laptop (also Windows 7) to restore and update my iPhone. This works fine, but I would be screwed if I only had one laptop.

iPhone 4 firmware update failure.
location:
apple.com - date:
September 9, 2010
Hello all.I have tried to update my iPhone 4 (32G, 4.0.2 firmware)to the latest firmware (4.1) but I continue to get this message:"The software for the iPhone "Stuart" was corrupted during download.Disconnect and reconnect, then try again. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."I have tried what it says, but that does not seem to help. I have also "repaired" (after the second time it failed) iTunes, Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support and Apple Software Update but this hasn't helped either.Any replies/ help would be much appreciated, thank you.- Stuart
