iPhone 4 with BOSE docking station

Wondered if anyone can help me out. I had an iPhone 4 since release, and it always worked with my BOSE docking station, although it warned me 'this device is not optimised for this iPhone'. I had to have my iPhone replaced, due to the home/lock button sticking and this new iPhone now is very hit & miss with the docking station. I have to force it to get it to work properly and it's very temperamental. Is this likely to be a problem with the new phone? Or are the two just incompatible. I must have had the docking station since about 2007 (ish).
