Iphone 4 will not work with docking stations

My Iphone 4 is not recognized by docking stations. I have a brand new player that when I connect my Iphone to it nothing happens at all. No error message and battery is not being charged, and it only plays through the Iphone speakers. My daughter has a a slightly older player that my Iphone won't work with either, same thing, like it isn't connect at all. I have a old player that will work with it if I remove the adapter and just push the Iphone all the way down. It plays and shows it is charging. Anyone know why it isn't working with the newer docking stations?
