iPhone 4 to ios7 all text typed hangs making it almost impossible to text or email

I updated my iphone4 to iOS 7 and immediately I found that whenever I typed text in emails , notes or emails the text hung. I would like to go back to iOS 6 but this seems not to be possible. Has anyone had a similar problem and how did they fix it. All suggestions appreciated.
