iPhone 3gs tethering after iPhone 4 purchase
location:

Ok, first cool forum.
Second, here is my dilemma. I purchased the iphone 4 about a month ago and accidentally upgraded to the 4.3 firmware. Previously I was using an iphone 3G on the 3.0 firmware and the tethering hack that was so popular a year or so ago even on unjailbroken phones. I made a sim card adapter for the 3g and tried my new sim card the day I bought the iphone 4 and it actually worked. Tested it a week later and the 3g phone no longer saw the sim card or any other sim card for that matter. I assumed it was because I brought the iphone 4 home unactivated and assumed that it had something to do with me activating the new phone and maybe took a few days for it somehow to unactivate my old phone? I don't know, probably something I did while using the older phone to save a back up to transfer my contacts etc.
Anyway I have a 3g iphone that is jailbroke on the 3.0 firmware and know the sim adapter works but the 3g phone does not see a sim card. I want to be able to

location:

I need someone to clarify for me...
I am about to purchase a iPhone 4 full retail price $599 with no contract...
Well if I am not on a contract with Att will my phone be unlocked?
Or will I have to do this myself?
If so is there any current solution for tmobile users?
I read many rumors that the phone was coming to tmobile... But nothing official should wait some more?

iPhone 4 purchase question...
location:
ilounge.com - date:
January 1, 2011
...just a quick question/opinion. I was thinking of purchasing an iPhone4 in the very near future. I have never owned an iPhone, but I was a Touch (3g) owner, so I have a sew of both paid and free content.
I know an iPhone 4 owner who said they haven't had issues with the exception of dropped calls, but that seems to be a carrier issues, the antenna he said wasn't too much of an issue, not a deal breaker.
What I am asking if this point in time, would you purchase a iPhone 4 or wait for the next version of the iPhone.
I currently have an Android which I got free through my employer and I am on a month to month with my carrier so I would not need to break a contract; what is your opinion in all honestly and experience in general with the iPhone.
There are apps I like with Android, but there a a lot I miss that are iOS specific.
Thanks all.

Upgrading from 3GS to iPhone 4 via eBay purchase?
location:
macrumors.com - date:
April 1, 2011
I apologize for asking this question since I am sure it has come up, but I have not been able to locate the answer via Google or searching the forums here. So here goes.
I have an iPhone 3GS with AT&T. I am eligible for an upgrade with AT&T but want to save my upgrade for the iPhone 5. However, I am getting impatient and would like to upgrade to an iPhone 4 in the interim without burning my upgrade or extending my contract (and then sell my 3GS on eBay to mitigate the cost). What I am trying to figure out is whether this is possible by buying a used iPhone 4 on eBay.
Simply put, can I buy a used iPhone 4 on eBay, swap in my SIM card from my 3GS, and use it without burning my AT&T upgrade/extending my contract? If so, do I need to buy an unlocked iPhone, or can I buy one from someone who has switched to Verizon (and thus, they are still under contract with AT&T)? Let's assume scrupulous eBay sellers, etc. - I just don't understand the

White iPhone 4 Parts Available for Purchase?!
location:
macrumors.com - date:
June 26, 2010
I'm very confused what's going on with Apple if third party resellers are already selling parts for both the black and white iPhone 4. CNN.cn has the full OEM body of the white iPhone 4, but the cost is astronomical. I do not see what this "challenge" is that Apple speaks of.
Don't believe me, check it out for yourself at these links. And for those of you who cannot hold off any longer, you can always get a dummy white iPhone 4 while you wait for the real functional one, haha.

Want to purchase iPhone 4 without contract
location:
modmyi.com - date:
June 9, 2010
I'm interested in getting an iPhone 4. I currently have a 3G[S] 16GB, and have someone actually interested in buying it for $500, possibly more. I have read from numerous sources that the iPhone 4 will be $599 for the 16GB version, which I want.
I don't want to extend my contract, or upgrade.
Can I just purchase the iPhone 4 without the contract using the money I sold my 3G[S] with? If so, from where? Apple.com or the Apple Store or something? Also, will this come with the 1 year warranty in case of any problems (Products like these are usually glitchy the first few months.)
Lastly, if I got the iPhone 4 without upgrading and just buying it alone, is there any complications I have to worry about? I already have the $30 data plan, but will AT&T say anything? One example of a complication I might have is that I am using SIM and have to get microSIM..
Do I go to the AT&T store and ask for microSIM or do I use the DIY-tutorial thing?

Where to Purchase factory unlocked iPhone 4
location:
modmyi.com - date:
May 8, 2011
I want to buy a 32gb iPhone 4 and think I would prefer to get a factory unlocked unit this time. Lots of crap around and not much in the way of solid information....so will hope to get some answers here.
1. Can you buy an unlocked unit from an Apple Store in U.S.?
2. They are all over the place on Ebay and make no sense as to price. There is a seller now that has 10 units for a "buy it now" price of %501. USD. He is rated a 100% seller with lots of ratings. This is about $200.+ lower than the auctions for a similar unit. Makes no sense.
3. Most important....what does one have to worry about in buying? What are the questions and what are the scams?
Confused.

iPhone 4 possible purchase...
location:
ilounge.com - date:

I own an iPhone 3GS. I love it. I was very excited about the iPhone 4, and found out that I could upgrade to it, with the new ATT contract at the 299 price tag.
So, I was contemplating waiting in line on Thursday and picking it up. I'd really like the screen, and the camera with flash and facetalk. However, I was leaving out of town on Thursday so I never did pick it up.
So, now that the reviews have came back with possible yellow tints appearing and the antenna issue has got me thinking that maybe I'll just wait for next years model.
I was going to buy this and sell my 3GS on ebay, for a good price - I didn't want to wait til next year as the asking price would obviously go down by then... but now with these issues I think I'll have to keep it.
To the people who have the iPhone 4, is it worth upgrading? Are you having reception issues? yellow tints? Or has that all been blown out of the water?
