iPhone 4 PROXIMITY SENSOR GLOWING RED when on call!!!
location:
apple.com - date:
September 8, 2010
I just posted a topic a few minutes ago about the proximity sensor and make some more test's.I dimmed the light in my room in my last test, and I see the infrared emitter of the sensor glowing red (is very low, but is there!).If I remember some electronics, when an infrared emitter emits visible red light is because it's receiving a too high current. This can be a mayor problem, because the emitter don't would survive too much time this overcharge.A this point, I believe that Apple solution to the issue may be allow more current pass to the emitter, maybe too much.Anyone can confirm this? (also if you don't updated yet). Many thanks to everyone.

My phone was mysteriously going blank in connection with calls. I had an appointment with the genius bar today and it turns out that the screen protector I bought which also had a privacy anti glare feature was messing with the proximity sensor.

location:
macrumors.com - date:
March 14, 2011
I searched the internet for this after talking to Apple Care.
they will replace my Iphone 4 but I wanted to try to fix this first.
What happens is during a call my cheek is moving and the phone lights up and buttons get pushed and then the call is hung up on.
Several critical calls have been messed up by this.
the fix?
Reset network settings.
It is under general in settings
has it worked? Yes so far. I will continue to test this week and report back here.

iPhone 4 Proximity Sensor not working
location:
macrumors.com - date:
June 25, 2010
Noticing someting wierd with my new iPhone 4 - the proximity sensor doesn't seem to work well (or at all..)
When the phone is up against my ear or if I'm cradling the phone between my ear and shoulder the proximity sensor should disable the screen and touch controls until it detects that I've pulled the phone away from my head. My iPhone 3G excelled at this. My iPhone 4 however seems to want to keep the screen on at all times, causing "cheek dialing" issues, mostly trying to initiate FaceTime.
Anyone else experiencing this?

iPhone 4 Proximity Sensor Malfunctions Reported
location:
modmyi.com - date:
June 25, 2010
Increasing numbers of iPhone 4 users are reporting the touchscreen becoming active during phone calls when the proximity sensor would normally shut it off, leading to inadvertent button-presses. The reports are coming in with enough frequency and consistency to suspect a hardware or calibration issue with at least a particular subset of iPhones. No word from Apple yet.
The iPhone's proximity sensor uses a small infrared LED and uses the reflection from nearby objects to deactivate the touchscreen when it's close to your head. If you hold it up to an iSight or other camera that can read near infrared light, you can usually just see the glow. The problem may be in how sensitive the detector is set to be on some phones or an actual problem with the detector. So far I haven't noticed it with my own phone, if I make a call and hold a finger in front of the sensor with my finger the scr

iPhone 4 Proximity Sensor

I am having a small issue with the Proximity sensor (I think that's the one) on my iPhone 4. When I put the phone up to my face the screen does not stay blank. It will come on periodically throughout the call, and then takes input from my cheek, trying to switch to Facetime, or switching into the address book, etc.Has anyone else experienced this? I have upgraded from the 3G which I had for two years, and never encountered this problem.

Add me to the list.....first call i made i noticed this....i thought it was the person i was talking too....if you rock it side to side you can see the screen turn off and on.
On a positive note, i can actually operate the phone with my riding gloves on where i would have to press very firmly on the 3gs and swipe a few times!!!!!!

iPhone 4 Proximity Sensor Problems
location:
macrumors.com - date:
June 24, 2010
The proximity sensor on the iPhone 4 rarely works. Many others have noticed this problem, so I'm starting a thread for people to report findings and see if we can find a solution. I've been hanging up on people, accidentally switching over for call-waiting, accidentally dialing numbers, etc. Post here if you're having the same issue.

iPhone 4 Proximity Sensor Problem
location:
macrumors.com - date:
June 23, 2010
I got my iPhone 4 this morning.
Everything looks and works great except for the proximity sensor.
For some reason, the screen turns back on within 1/2 inch from face, which makes me press buttons during a call. I was on one call and pressed the speaker button twice and the 3 key before I realized something was wrong.
I took my wife's 3gs, and the screen turned on 4-5 inches from my face.
Wonder if it's a hardware or software thing. Any other's with the new phone have this problem?
