New ipad 3 not charging with usb extension

Heres how the setup was
I had the ipad 3 plugged to a power surge, a USB extension plugged to the white brick thing that came with the ipad
Now when i remove the usb extension out of the setup it chargers fine
The usb extension works great with the iPhone
Im using an amazon basics usb extension
That little apple cable is too short
Also when i plugged the ipad into my laptop it doesn't charge
Gives me that not charging"
The laptop is a few years old
Anybody else encounter this problem using a usb extension cord with the ipad 3

Hello..
Just bought an Pad 2 when I connect it via USB in my computer it shows not charging.
When I plug it in the Wall Charger no problem shows it charging. Do I have a issue?

My Lenovo ThinkPad T420s has 3 powered USB ports; two USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0. All three successfully charge my iPhone and iPod Touch with both their original and aftermarket 30 pin USB cables. My husband's iPod 5 charged just fine on my PC with its Lightning cable. However, the iPad Mini will not charge on any of the ports using either my or my husband's Lightning cable. The Mini only charges from the wall outlet charger. The Lighning cable works fine with any of these same USB ports for syncing... just not for charging. Anyone else experiencing this, and any ideas? Is something weird with the iPad Mini's charging system? Thanks.

Hi, I bought my Ipad Mini yesterday but when I was trying to charge it via USB using multiple PC's its showing "not charging". It works when I tried using direct connection to the power outlet but ot thru USB. Does anyone encounter the same issue? Hope to get help. Thanks!

I activated my refurb iPad 2 yesterday. When I connect it to iTunes via USB however, it says 'not charging', even though it's connected to a USB 2-hub with its own power supply.
Is this normal ? Does this mean you can only connect it directly to a USB-port on the mac ?

My Ipad is not charging with the 10 W USB Power Adaptor Charger ? Please tell me .....What can be the issues with solutions to resolve them ? Even when the USB is connected to computer it is not charging , however , the transfer of data is taking place including Sync. Is there a problem with the charger or the ipad please isolate & inform. I'm aware that the "not charging" issue is because the USB port on the side of my monitor can't provide enough power to charge the batteries of the iPad2, however if I plug it in and say, play music and what not, will it still be using the battery?
Is plugging it in doing absolutely nothing for the device, therefor I'm better off just leaving it unplugged? Or is there a trickle charge slowing down the battery usage, or is it provided enough power to maintain (but not increase or decrease) the current battery level?

My question is, I have a first gen Mac Intel iMac (the first iMacs that came out using Intel processors a few years back), which I'm assuming doesn't have a high powered USB port because my iPad does not charge via USB (while the screen is on, like the newer iMacs do, we've already established iPad will charge when screen is off on pretty much all computers, just very slowly), but will it charge if I'm connected via a a DC powered USB hub?
My main goal is to be able to be charging the device while the screen is on and it's connected/syncing to my iMac.
Does anyone else have a first gen Intel iMac and can comment on whether or not they can get their iPad to charge via USB?
