Can my 4th gen iPod handle iOS 7?

I bought it when it was ios5, and I upgraded to iOS 6. It lags a lot when I open high-end programs (it's actually lagging as I am typing this). But when I just surf the web or text it's fine. Question is, can my iPod handle iOS 7? All I'm going to do is use safari, iMessage, and play music . Probably not games .

does iPod touch 4th gen. (old one like i bought mine in 2010 or 2011) have update with iOS 7? or is there any way to change from iOS 6 to iOS 7? or is it just iOS 6 only for iPod touch 4th generation.
