iBooks app dictionary gone after update?
location:
ilounge.com - date:

I have just noticed that the iBooks ereader app seems to have lost the dictionary after the latest update.
In the past I could highlight a work, hold that word, and in the popup I could select "Dictionary" and a definition from the dictionary would pop up.
This is now gone.
Any ideas why?

Adding a dictionary to Dictionary app
location:
macrumors.com - date:

Hello there,
Since English is not my mother tongue I often find myself in need of a non-English dictionary on my Mac. After all these years I just find it stupid that Apple never provided other languages' dictionaries on MacOSX.
Do you know a way to add a new language to the Dictionary app, maybe an Italian dictionary for example?
Thanks very much

Adding a dictionary to Dictionary.app
location:

Hello everybody, I've been messing around with dictionary.app via track pad (it is called "Look up", three fingers tap to activate). I find it extremely usefull and therefore I wish I could add a translate option to this function. For example I am looking for Russian-English-Russian dictionary. The goal is to find the plug in supported by dictionary.app (as well as I understand, I need a file xxx.dictionary located in /Library/Dictionaries). So I DO NOT look for a separate translate application, that can not be integrated into dictionary app. Ofcourse I did search google and forum, and the most common advice is to go to StarDict for downloads. But as soon as I follow the link I get the message "

dictionary app for in-text defintions in safari?
location:

So I have looked everywhere, but does there exist an app or anything for that matter with the ipad that allows me to just double click a word (i.e. reading a NY times article online) and get the definition of it? I really like how mozilla firefox browser allows one to double click a word with the mouse to get the definition of the world. It doesn't appear this seamless integreation is available with the ipad...or maybe it is? crossing my fingers you guys can help me. Stand alone dictionary apps don't help obviously to get this done...

Is there a dictionary app for the iPod?
location:
ilounge.com - date:

My mom's purse was stolen with her iPod nano, as well as an electronic Russian-English dictionary.
I am thinking of getting her an iPod touch to replace both items. Does the iPod touch have a good dictionary application? I am specifically interested in Russian-English.

Directory of other dictionaries for dictionary.app
location:
apple.com - date:

I want to get a Spanish dictionary for my Dictionary.app, so that when I three-finger-double-tap a word in Spanish, I get the definition and/or the translation of it. I've changed my Mac to Spanish to help me learn, but without this I am sinking. I find it preposterous that Apple's solution to this is to make me scavenge the internetz for '.dict' files. There must be a directory of other dictionaries I can add to Dictionary.app somewhere, right? (Though I also find it preposterous that this directory isn't built into Dictionary.app itself!) If you know where such a listing is, I would much appreciate it. I would, however, settle for a .dict file of a Spanish dictionary, or even a Spanish-English dictionary (though I'd rather stay more immersed than that). Thanks.

location:

I will be going to Germany in mid/late March and was wondering if anyone has a preferred dictionary/phrasebook app for learning German on the iPhone.
I've used UltraLingua for my spanish/english dictionary, but am not sure if they have a german version.
Has anyone tried Ascendo? They seem pretty cool.

Best Spanish/English dictionary app?

I'm taking Spanish at school this year and I was wondering what you recommend for a Spanish/English dictionary app. The main thing that I'm looking for is easy to use and that it gives correct translations. What are your recommendations.
Also, what do you recommend for a regular English dictionary app?
