Compass for Maps Brings Compass to Maps.app
location:
modmyi.com - date:
August 9, 2011
Recently, ModMyi covered that a newly released tweak called
Speed for Maps gave the ability to display your speed while inside the Maps.app on your device. Not only is this tweak simple, but it is also useful and well worth a download. Evan Coleman, the developer of Speed for Maps, hit the head on the nail again by releasing Compass for Maps on Cydia.
Like its predecessor, Compass for Maps is also a simple tweak that could make your Maps.app much more handy. Upon installing Compass for Maps, a little compass appears on the bottom of your map screen and tells you what direction you're going. There are no options to configure with the exception of the "Enable" button within the Settings.app.
The description in Cydia dually noted that Compass for Maps is also compatible

location:

Hey guys.
The inbuilt maps seems to get the wrong direction all the time, I guess it's a compass issue.
Where is the compass to begin with and how do I calibrate it?

iPhone 4, Flip leather case and the 'Compass' app..just some info
location:

Hello Members, and anyone new to the iPhone 4 with a 'Flip' type case that has a magnetic clasp.I had just got my new Iphone 4, and after fully updating it to iOS 4.1, I'd successfully managed to fix the screen protector that came with the all 'leather' flip case, and proceeded to slide the Iphone into it's new luxury coat closing it securely.Leaving it while, and then coming back to my Iphone, I started to explore the device and went straight for the 'compass' app, just to see it working....I notice it wasn't operating correctly, the app would either be really difficult to calibrate, and when it did, the pointer would not be stable and jerked around a lot.Anyway...I found the 'flip' case to have been a bad choice purely because of a design flaw, see the phone kept wanting to slide out as I would use it, so off I went to buy another one.I settled for one which was made of plastic, it was a black 'enclosure' type and even included the sc

How to calibrate iPhone 3Gs Compass within an App?
location:
apple.com - date:
September 3, 2009
I'm writing an app that's using the compass heading events.I'm having a problem every now and then though with the app giving me -1 constantly as the heading until I exit, open Apple's compass App, then start my app again. It immediately starts working when I do that. This problem doesn't happen all the time, but every now and then while I'm testing or after a day, it'll happen again. And it seems to be a calibration issue, and Apple's compass App is obviously able to do it instantly.Another thing I noticed when this happens is if you open the Apple Compass App when I'm getting -1 values, for a split second Apple's compass will show 0 degrees, then the right one.It must be doing some calibration when you start their app. Does anyone know how to perform that same calibration in an app? I looked through the CoreLocationManager documentation and couldn't find anything that said anything about calibrating, except for this:+- (void)dismissHea

Need iPhone Compass.app screenshot
location:
macrumors.com - date:

Hi,
I'm creating an app that needs a compass feature. In an attempt to follow the HIG as closely as possible, I'd need someone to upload a screenshot of the iPhone Compass.app (with the wooden background) at the original resolution.
Unfortunately, I only have a first gen iPod touch, otherwise I'd of course do this myself
Thanks in advance!

Demo of Digital Compass Used in an iPhone App
location:
macrumors.com - date:
June 25, 2009
iPhone developer
Ziconic has already started taking advantage of the new iPhone 3GS's digital compass in a prototype build of its AirCoaster 3D iPhone application.
AirCoaster 3D is an existing application that allows users to design and ride 3D roller coasters on their iPhones and iPod touches. They've since posted a video of a prototype version that takes advantage of the iPhone 3GS's digital compass.
This version of the app allows the user to move the iPhone around in real life to obtain a different view out of the in-app roller coaster. This feature is expected to come in a future update to the application.

Compass.app?
location:
ilounge.com - date:

I was looking through ifile and noticed that all the iPhone apps are also on the iPod touch (4g, running 4.2.1). As cool as this is, I know some apps, like phone.app and mobileSMS.app will not work because of hardware limitations. However, I noticed an app that's not on the iPod but could work: compass.app. Looks pretty cool, has pictures and everything. If an iPhone user could send an iPod user (such as myself) the files in compass.app, would it work? And are there any other iPhone apps that could work on the iPod?
